With our new Home$tart program, you can get up to $5,000 in grant funds for the down payment or closing costs on your first home. If you choose one of our low down payment home loan options, this grant may cover a big chunk of your up-front costs and help make home ownership a reality for you.
The grant is available to qualifying first time home buyers earning up to 80% of area median income for the location of the residence being purchased. You can find median income information for your area on the Department of Housing and Urban Development website at huduser.org. Income limits are adjusted based on household size, and all income earners in the household are considered, whether or not they are borrowers on the loan.
Home$tart recipients must also complete a home buyer education class and qualify for a home loan. The funds may be used toward the purchase of your primary residence, with property types including single family home, condominium and manufactured homes on land. There are no neighborhood restrictions.
5-year Deed Restriction
The Home$tart Program is subject to a 5-year deed restriction that requires you to return a portion of the grant if you sell your home within 5 years. The amount is prorated based on the length of time you own the home. The good news is if you live in the home for at least 5 years, you never have to repay the grant.
